Latest tech innovations on show at 2024 Taiwan Innotech Expo|Taiwan News
Ten research institutions are showcasing their latest inventions at the 2024 Taiwan Innotech Expo. The new technologies were developed by the likes of the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Metal Industries Research and Development Center, and the Taiwan Textile Research Institute. Among others, they include light detection and ranging applications, smart mobility vehicles and tiny but powerful artificial intelligence computers. Let’s take a look.
This is version 2.0 of a handcycle for disabled people. It features a smart electric assist system and a radar to detect vehicles behind the rider for increased safety during use. The Department of Industrial Technology under the Ministry of Economic Affairs has set up a section demystifying these new technologies at the 2024 Taiwan Innotech Expo. On show are inventions from 10 research institutions, including the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Metal Industries Research and Development Center and the Automotive Research and Testing Center. Everyone is welcome to give the state-of-the-art technologies a try.

Once we can manufacture these systems ourselves, we can expect the costs of light detection and ranging to go down in the future, making the technology more accessible for everyone. There is demand for LiDAR applications in areas like unmanned aerial vehicles, foreign object detection equipment in subway systems, and unmanned surface vehicles.
The combination of artificial intelligence, LiDAR technology and traditional lasers allows for faster and more precise detection. And broader applications could be introduced into daily life once production kicks off domestically, lowering costs. Also on show are chips the size of a fingernail, loaded with AI technology. When mounted onto aerial photography drones, they make for smart AI-powered UAVs.

We hope that these innovative technologies will help upgrade and transform Taiwan’s industry. We selected 64 out of 100 to showcase at the exhibition, covering fields such as AI, semiconductors, smart manufacturing, sustainable development, smart healthcare and textiles.
Taiwan is doing its utmost to promote technological development, and already the fruits of its efforts have been validated internationally. The Ministry of Economic Affairs hopes attendees at the expo will feel inspired to pave the way for a smart technological future.
